Lockdown Ordered At Schools, No Active Shooter Found But Shell Casings Discovered: HCPD

Schools in the area of a reported shooting were placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon. No active shooter was found, but shell casings were.

COLUMBIA, MD — After receiving reports of a shooting in the Harpers Farm Road and Cedar Lane area Tuesday early afternoon, area schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The reports came in around 12:25 p.m. Feb. 18. The Howard County Police Department confirmed in a post on X that there was no active shooter threat.

Shell casings were found in the area of Harpers Farm and Beaverkill roads, but there were no signs that the shooting involved the schools. There was an increased police presence in the area during school dismissal, however.

Police confirmed there were no injuries or damage to property. The investigation is ongoing.
