Nominate Principal, Teacher For Howard County Annual Award
Nominations are being accepted now for Howard County's teacher of the tear and principal of the year awards.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The nomination period has opened for the annual Howard County Public School System Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards.
All nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 7. HCPSS will publicly announce its principal and teacher nominees in the spring.
The teacher of the year award honors "excellence in teaching and encourages creative and quality instruction." HCPSS selects one teacher to serve as the school system nominee for The Washington Post Teacher of the Year, and a second teacher as the nominee for the Maryland State Department of Education Maryland Teacher of the Year.

Nominations can be submitted by teachers, students, former students, parents, administrators or the general public. Teachers may not nominate themselves. Here's where to find the teacher of the year award nomination guidelines and packet.
The principal of the year award aims to recognize "those principals who go beyond the day-to-day demands of their position to create an exceptional educational environment." HCPSS selects one principal as the HCPSS principal of the year. That individual also serves as the Howard County nominee for The Washington Post Principal of the Year.
