GoFundMe Set Up For 80+ Rabbits Rescued From Rural Property
Volunteers with Friends of Rabbits in Columbia saved around 80 rabbits recently. A GoFundMe has been created to help pay for their care.

COLUMBIA, MD ā A nonprofit rabbit rescue group in Howard County, along with numerous volunteers, embarked upon what they call the "largest, most intense rescue mission" they've tackled so far, saving around 60 bunnies of all ages and conditions from a rural property.
On their first trip out to the farm, volunteers with Friends of Rabbits were able to save 30 rabbits that included injured and sick bunnies, baby bunnies and pregnant rabbits who have given birth since arriving in the safe and secure care of the rescue, the organization stated on Facebook. They were able to catch the remaining rabbits as they returned to the property a couple more times.
"Our volunteers, along with some volunteers from HRS, went out to the property several evenings in a row for hours at a time and caught approximately 60 rabbits. We are currently housing all of them at our rescue in Columbia. Many of these rabbits are sick and malnourished and have required emergency medical care - a huge expense for the rescue. All but one female has given birth while in rescue," the organization posted on its GoFundMe page.

"This rescue effort is going to be a huge expense for the rescue ... These gentle creatures deserve safe, loving homes and your support can make a significant impact in their lives. By contributing to this cause, we can help ensure that more rabbits are rescued from shelters and given a second chance at life," Friends of Rabbits stated.
They also recently rescued 20 bunnies from another property, bringing their total to approximately 80 bunnies in their care.

"We have never been more tired, dirty and stinky. But it is all worth it to get these animals safe and stop the out of control breeding. This is what happens when you leave domestic rabbits outside. They reproduce. They become infested with bot flies, ticks and fleas. They become sick and malnourished. If you cannot keep your animals take them to a shelter or rescue. Do not leave them outside," Friends of Rabbits posted on Facebook.
Located at 10706 Vista Road in Columbia, Friends of Rabbits, a nonprofit rabbit rescue group, has been dedicated to saving rabbits since 1997. As the largest domestic rabbit rescue in Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia, they provide a safe haven for house rabbits from crowded shelters, stray domestic rabbits and those rescued from hoarding situations.
