Speak Out: What Establishments Would You Recommend for New Mall Addition?

At a meeting on Tuesday a representative of the mall developers said they would aggressively pursue retailers the community was interested in, if they could afford the market rates.

The plan to demolish the L.L. Bean store at the Mall in Columbia and is now in full swing.

Officials from General Growth Properties outlined plans on Tuesday night that showed what the new addition would like—it would consist of three buildings with a large courtyard in the middle. To fill the new space, GGP is currently  negotiating with several retailers who GGP senior development director Jim Whitcome said, "had tremendous interest" in the new development.

Whitcome also said that if residents would like to see a certain store be included in the new development, they should contact the mall's management and "we'll go aggressively at them."

"We're generally driven by what the market wants," said Whitcome. "We actively pursue any top quality merchant."

The mall already includes over 150 restaurants and stores. The full directory is listed on the mall's website.

Some Patch readers have already weighed in on the Columbia Patch Facebook Page, one recommended a Crate and Barrel, another person said CVS and a couple people said more parking (even though Whitcome made it clear on Tuesday that additional parking was not included in the current plan.)

So with the plan calling for stores and restaurants (some with the option of outdoor patios), the question we're posing to our readers is:

What stores or restaurants would you like to see built as part of the redevelopment of the Mall in Columbia?
