We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Angelo Flores who nominated Andrew of Columbia.

How do you know the star local student?
He is my youngest brother.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Andrew is a wonderful mathematician. Also he is such a good friend in school. He supports his classmates when they need help. He loves protecting the environment, his favorite subject in school is Green Beans where he has the opportunity to recycle all kind of plastic and papers. He is always eager to participate in clean-up event in our community. In fact, he will volunteer for one clean-up event on March 25 at Hickory Ridge.
Andrew also loves Greek mythology - his favorite character is Percy Jackson. And last but not least my brother is the spelling bee champion of his school. I love my little brother and I am very proud of him!
