Temporary Multi-Use Path Created For Complete Streets Demonstration Project

A temporary multi-use path has been created in the Laurel area to demonstrate how the Complete Streets project works.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A temporary demonstration Complete Streets project will be installed along southbound U.S. 1 (Washington Boulevard) in the Laurel area between Davis Avenue to North Laurel Road, according to state officials.

The temporary changes, designed to improve safety for pedestrians and all roadway users, will repurpose the southbound right turn lane to create a multi-use path for people to safely walk, bike and roll with crosswalks connecting the path to existing sidewalks.

The initiative is part of the State Highway Administration’s partnership with local agencies and the nonprofit Smart Growth America.
