Volunteers Needed To Serve On Howard County's Commission On Aging

Howard County needs volunteers to serve on its Commission on Aging. The deadline to apply is June 14.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD —Volunteers are needed to serve on Howard County's Commission on Aging. The deadline to apply falls on June 14.

"Our Commission on Aging is a key partner in working collaboratively and helping us support our older adults with policies and programs that allow and encourage them to age in a safe and nurturing environment with resources they need. We continue our comprehensive efforts to ensure Howard County is a model age-friendly community. Please join our efforts to make our county a welcoming place for people of all ages," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.

Consisting of 15 members, the commission participates in community activities and advises the county executive about policies, programs and practices that impact the health and wellbeing of older adults and their families. The Commission also provides advice and support to county agencies, non-profits and other stakeholders working to create an equitable, livable and accessible community for all older adults in Howard County.

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be Howard County residents, 18 years of age or older and have an interest in working toward ensuring Howard County is a community that recognizes the needs and interests of its increasing older adult population. Eligible candidates must also be able to attend the commission’s meetings, which are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. and be committed to working on projects between meetings. Meetings are currently being held virtually.

Interested applicants should complete an application online by visiting www.howardcountymd.gov/applybc(link is external) and selecting “Commission on Aging” in the form. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for consideration. If approved, the appointment will be forwarded to the County Council for confirmation.
