Waverly Elementary Staffer Wins Howard County School Psychologist Of The Year Award

Waverly Elementary School's Kevin Hughes has been named the Howard County School Psychologist of the Year.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Waverly Elementary School’s Kevin Hughes has been named the Howard County School Psychologist of the Year by the Howard County School Psychologists Association.

The annual award is given to a school psychologist who demonstrates the highest level of professional practice and provides the full range of school psychological services, according to the school district.

“Dr. Hughes stands out for the personal connections he builds with students and staff. He goes beyond his duties, greeting all students at the walker door each morning and engaging with them at lunch and recess, showing his genuine care,” said WAVES principal Cherilyn Brown. “He takes time to (get to) know individual students and families. He leads with a collaborative nature, supports all staff, leads professional learning, and works closely with Student Support Team members, teachers and support staff to create a strong support system for all students. His dedication to building community and meeting students’ needs makes a lasting impact on our school.”
