Women-Led Band, Las Karamba, Headlines AMPED in the Park in Downtown Columbia on Thursday, July 24

Merriweather District hosts annual summer series of arts and entertainment with dozens of free events held in Color Burst Park

Las Karamba is the headliner for the Merriweather District’s free Summer Series Thursday, July 24, at Color Burst Park in Downtown Columbia. Founded by six women in Barcelona, Las Karamba expresses its dedication to music emphasizing the role of women.

The AMPED in the Park sessions include live music, food, drinks, and giveaways. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by live music at 7 p.m. Other AMPED in the Park entertainment scheduled this summer includes:

  • Aug. 7: New Jazz Underground, an American Trio, is an innovative and creative collective striving to establish itself as a defining voice for the genre of jazz an beyond.
  • Aug. 21: Zar Eletrik pays homage to tribal cultures, particularly through the incorporation of the ancient Zar ritual originating from Ethiopia and Egypt.
  • Sept. 4: Butte & Friends is a revolving lineup of Mid-Atlantic musicians led by band leader John Butte best known for his work as bassist and vocalist for DelMarva's renowned Grateful Dead Tribute - Better Off Dead.
  • All Summer Series events are free and open to the public. Color Burst Park is located at 6000 Merriweather Drive in Columbia. Onsite parking is ample and free in the Symphony Woods Garage.
