Pedestrian Struck, Trapped Under Car in Crofton

Man was critically injured in Sunday morning incident, according to Anne Arundel Fire and Rescue.

CROFTON, MD — A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a car and stuck under the vehicle early Sunday in on Route 3 in Crofton.

First responders were called to the scene near Route 450 and found Daniel Aaron Jacobs, 35, of Clinton, trapped under a 1999 Ford Taurus.

Fire and rescue crews extricated Jacobs after 25 minutes and he was flown by Maryland State Police to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with critical, life-threatening injuries.

According to Anne Arundel Police, the Taurus was heading south on Route 3 when the driver, David James Pratico, 24, of Bowie, saw Jacobs in the roadway. An attempt to avoid striking the man was unsuccessful.

Another driver at the scene told police that she saw the man staggering in the roadway and she had to swerve to avoid hitting him.

Anne Arundel County Police said alcohol and drugs may be a contributing factor on the part of the victim. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
