'Patriotic Pets' Campaign Makes Adopting a Pet Easier in Baltimore County
Adoption fees at the Baltimore County Animal Shelter will be waived Oct. 12.

The traditional observation of Columbus Day—you know, the day that recognizes when Christopher Columbus may or may not have discovered America—will be joined by a furry celebration of the explorer this year in Baltimore County.
Baltimore County Animal Shelter officials have created a "Patriotic Pets" campaign that will be held Oct. 12, the Saturday before the federally-observed holiday on Oct. 14.
Any pet adopted or placed on hold for adoption that day will have its adoption fee waived, according to to a statement from county officials.
The cost of a cat or dog license will still be required at the time of adoption; Baltimore County law requires pets to be licensed and for rabies vaccinations to be kept up to date, according to the statement.
