Brick Companies Rely 100 Percent on Wind Power

The Brick Companies, headquartered in Edgewater and owners of the Golf Club at South River, recently announced that all of its Maryland properties are powered 100 percent by wind.

According to a Washington Gas Energy Services press release, the Brick Companies own six commercial businesses, two golf courses and two marinas—each powered 100 percent by the wind.

Shifting to wind energy to power buildings will help the company reduce greenhouse gases and is equivalent to taking more than 1,500 cars off the road for one year, according to the release.

“Committing to purchase 100 percent of our electricity from wind power provides an economic benefit based on our historic energy costs and represents another step toward our goal of being a leader in environmental stewardship,” said The Brick Companies CEO Lex Birney in a release.

With properties in Gaithersburg, Towson, Lusby, Pasadena and Edgewater, The Brick Companies CEO said he wants customers to feel as though they are supporting the environment by supporting his company.
