Bulldogs, Seahawks Battle for South County Championship Trophy

Edgewater, Davidsonville and south county’s two beloved high school football teams face off Friday night to see who takes home the South County Championship trophy.

Both teams will have history on their minds as the two squads play in the wake of , where the Bulldogs took home the trophy with a .

In 2012, the Southern Bulldogs got their season off to a slow start, falling to Meade High 35-0. In the first half, the Bulldogs kept the Mustangs to zero points, but the third and fourth quarters were a different story, as Meade scored 14 and 21 points respectively.

The Bulldogs are set to play hosts to the Seahawks of South River, who crushed Chesapeake High 48-24 in their first county game of the season.

South River fell early 9-7 late in the first half, but quarterback Connor Cox threw a touchdown to give them the lead 14-9 just before halftime, according to the South River Athletics website.

The Seahawks went on to score 34 second-half points, lead by Cox who threw six touchdowns for 338 yards. South River will travel to Southern for their match-up Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in Harwood.

As one of many new ideas brought forward by Southern's new Principal , Southern will host its Friday Family Football Festival before the game at 6:30 p.m. Listed below are a few special giveaways and activities taking place at the school before kickoff.
