Share the news with Davidsonville residents who have missed getting their gas and a quick breakfast at the corner of Route 214 and Davidsonville Road on the way to work: They will soon have a new store to visit.
The Davidsonville Country Market, which closed in August, will reopen under new ownership in the next few days. The store will sell much of what the old market retailed including gasoline at the pumps, candy, sodas and other snack foods. The store will also have a deli serving fresh, made-to-order sandwiches and baked goods.
The store could open as early as Saturday or as late as Monday, according to store manager Zaheer Ahmed.
Those who drive by the location regularly may have noticed a flurry of activity in the space. A quick tour on Thursday afternoon revealed recently refinished floors and ceiling beams, as well as freshly painted walls, a brand new coffee island, new countertops and and a new soda machine. Renovations of been ongoing for about two months, Ahmed said.
Ahmed said he is hoping to gain the loyalty of some of the former market's customers by carrying many of the same items and offering a similar atmosphere. The former proprietors of the Davidsonville Country Market—Chas and Frannie Thompson—now operate Chas & Fran's Place, a breakfast and lunch cafe located in Edgewater.
The Davidsonville Country Market is located at 801 W Central Ave. in Davidsonville. Hours will be the same as the old market, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
