Dozens Of Homes Evacuated After Vehicle Hits Edgewater Building, Gas Meter: Officials

A vehicle crashed into an Edgewater building and a gas meter, officials said. Dozens of homes had to be evacuated.

EDGEWATER, MD — Officials said a vehicle crashed into an Edgewater building and a gas meter Sunday, forcing dozens of homes to be temporarily evacuated. Nobody was hurt.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said it was called around 12:33 p.m. for the wreck in the 3500 block of Dental Road.

First responders said they found one vehicle that ran into a building.

Crews also reported a gas leak caused by the vehicle hitting the gas meter.

About 53 homes and one community center in The Landings at River Oaks were evacuated while Baltimore Gas and Electric secured the leak, firefighters said.

BGE secured the leak around 2:30 p.m., allowing all residents to safely return to their homes, said Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Jenny Macallair.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department and the Annapolis Fire Department also responded.
