Edgewater Shooting Hospitalizes 1, Prompts Attempted Murder Charges: Police

An Edgewater shooting hospitalized one victim, police said. Officers arrested the suspect and charged him with attempted murder.

EDGEWATER, MD — An Edgewater shooting hospitalized one victim this week, county police said. Officers expect the victim to survive.

Court documents show that authorities arrested the suspect, charging him with attempted murder and several other offenses. The documents list the arrestee as 57-year-old Jeffrey Stuart Hysan Sr. of Edgewater.

Police heard a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Wilmer Place around 12:30 p.m Monday. Officers said they immediately encountered and detained two people outside the home.

Authorities said they entered the home and found the victim lying on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. Police started giving medical aid.

Officers said the victim got in a physical fight inside the home with the suspect, who was one of the people detained outside.

The unidentified victim reported that the suspect grabbed a shotgun and shot them in the shoulder and neck area during the struggle, authorities said.

The victim and the suspect know each other, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said.

The court records say the suspect faces charges of:

  • First-degree assault (felony)
  • Second-degree assault (misdemeanor)
  • Reckless endangerment (misdemeanor)
  • Disorderly conduct (misdemeanor)
  • Attempted first-degree murder (felony)
  • Attempted second-degree murder (felony)
  • Firearm use/felony-violent crime (misdemeanor)
  • Controlled dangerous substance-possession of firearms (felony)

Hysan will be held without bond until his trial, a judge ordered Tuesday.
