Fire Pit Flames Extend to House Deck in Deale

The fire was prevented from entering the home or causing damage to the residence, a fire department spokesman said.

Firefighters had to extinguish a fire in Deale on Monday morning after flames from a fire pit spread to a home’s deck, a fire department spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a deck fire at 6:35 a.m. in Deale. When units arrived, they discovered the flames of a fire pit had extended outside of the designated space and reached the outdoor deck area of the house, Lt. Keith Hamilton said.

Hamilton said the flames never went into the home on the 6000 block of Melbourne Avenue, but the fire damaged the deck. Firefighters extinguished the flames in eight minutes and Hamilton called the incident “really small.”
