The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is often times lumped in with other organizations or animal shelter groups, but Fundraising and Event Coordinator Mindy Nelson that’s a misconception they’re trying to crack.
“It’s really a fun family festival … We are hoping that it will just help the community recognize that SPCA is here for the entire community, for Anne Arundel County, not just Annapolis,” Nelson said. “Our purpose is to really get people to realize we’re there for them no matter where they are in Anne Arundel.”

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County has no national affiliation with any other SPCA organization, Nelson said, who expressed her desire for residents to truly use the animal shelter as a community resource.
“The dog plunge, canoeing, our goal is to really get the word out about the SPCA,” Nelson said.
For only $5, residents can join in the festival that will include food, music, canoeing, vendors, games and contests. Music will be provided by the Biondi Brothers and the School of Rock while kids enjoy a moonbounce, crafts and an expansive children’s corner.
Some of the most anticipated parts of the day are the first ever UGLY Dog Contest, the Doggy Bikini Contest and the Puppy Plunges. All dogs and children under 10 get free admission, Nelson said.
