Police: Driver Error Caused Double-Fatal Accident

Police identified the victims of the crash as Stephanie Noell Banchero, 26, of Gambrills and Mary Elizabeth Corkill, 70, of Davidsonville.

Driver error was the primary cause of Monday night's in Davidsonville, according to a press release from Anne Arundel County police.

Emergency personnel responded to a report of a car accident at Davidsonville Road near Rossback Road around 5:50 p.m. on Monday, where they found a heavy front-end collision, Anne Arundel County Fire Capt. James Rostek said. The drivers of the vehicles were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police said Stephanie Noell Banchero, 26, of Gambrills, was traveling north on Davidsonville Road in a 2002 Honda Accord when she drifted off the right side of the roadway. Banchero “overcorrected” and caused the vehicle to move across the double yellow lines and into oncoming traffic, according to the release.

Banchero’s Honda with a 2000 Cadillac SLS in the southbound lane, killing herself and the Cadillac’s driver, Mary Elizabeth Corkill, 70, of Davidsonville.

There was no evidence that drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident, according to police.
