Retired Edgewater Firefighter Scores Nearly $100K In MD Lottery, 3 Other Players Win Big
A retired firefighter from Edgewater snagged nearly $100,000 in the Maryland Lottery. Three other Anne Arundel County players also won big.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Four lottery players won or claimed a combined $161,879 last week in Anne Arundel County.
Retired Edgewater Firefighter
The top prize of $96,879 came in Edgewater. A retired firefighter bought a World Championship Poker fast play ticket on June 6 while getting donuts to take to his grandchildren.
The winner, Jeffrey Chandler, checked his ticket that evening. The Edgewater resident could not believe he won.

“I honestly almost threw up when I saw the win," Chandler said in a press release after claiming his prize. "I ran – sprinted, really – across the street to my friend’s house to get her to look at it. I could barely breathe when she opened the door. She thought I was having a heart attack.”
Chandler picked up the ticket at Lou’s Stop Shop, located at 1208 Mayo Road. The store will get a $968.79 bonus for selling a progressive jackpot-winning fast play ticket worth $20,000 to $99,999.

Surprise Win In Annapolis
A different player snagged the second-largest prize of $30,000 in Annapolis.
The anonymous participant almost left the store because it didn't have her first choice of a lottery ticket and there was a long line. She eventually reconsidered and bought four Bonus Crossword 4th Edition scratch-offs from Wawa No. 569-E, situated at 321 Busch Frontage Road.
The player did not win on the first three tickets, but she got a "See Lottery" message when she scanned the fourth game. The woman thought there was a problem with the instant ticket. She later checked the lottery app on her phone and saw her good fortune.
The Anne Arundel County resident claimed her prize and said she felt like she was in a movie. She plans to save some of her winnings and use the rest on home improvements.
The Wawa that sold the ticket earned a $300 bonus from the lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $30,000.
Other Big Winners
Another participant won $25,000 in Annapolis playing the Pick 5 draw game on June 10. That player purchased their ticket at 7-Eleven No. 39502, which sits at 161 Defense Highway. That ticket was unclaimed as of Monday.
In Pasadena, somebody took home $10,000 while playing the Mega Millions draw game. They picked up their ticket on June 8 at Geresbeck’s Food Market, located at 8489 Fort Smallwood Road. This prize was also unclaimed as of Monday.
Across Maryland
Around the state, 50 tickets worth at least $10,000 were sold or redeemed in the week ending June 12. The Maryland Lottery paid more than $34.8 million in prizes over those seven days.
The top prize of $450,000 came on several Pick 5 tickets that a Washington, D.C. woman bought in Capitol Heights. She chose the same winning numbers on each ticket, earning her nine different prizes of $50,000 each.
The tickets were sold on June 8 at Best 1 Food Market, situated at 4225 Southern Avenue. The player already collected her winnings.
