South River Student Named National Merit Scholar
South River High School student Amelia Hallworth became a National Merit Scholar.

A recent South River High School graduate was named a National Merit Scholar for her academic performance.
Amelia Hallworth who will study epidemiology at the University of Maryland received the designation, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
Four other Anne Arundel County students also received the designation recently:
- Evan Uthus of Broadneck High School, who will study anthropology at the University of Maryland
- Xuefei Nou of Old Mill High School, who will study bio-engineering at the University of Maryland
- Sarah Baker of Annapolis High School, who will study applied mathematics at Claremont McKenna College (California).
- Cailin Oakes of Annapolis High School, who will study earth science at the University of Minnesota.
In total, 190 colleges and universities subsidized nearly 4,300 awards nationwide this year, and 11 National Merit Scholars were named for the class of 2013 across the county, according to the press release.
