South River Student Wins Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Award

Senior Sara Elert will perform a solo with the BSO on Dec. 4, according to the school's website.

South River High School student and violinist Sara Elert has been been announced as the winner of the 2013 Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Young Soloist Concerto Competition.

As the winner of the competition, Sara, who is a senior, will have the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the BSO. She will be the soloist in a performance of an excerpt from Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor, Movement I on Dec. 4 at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. 

That same evening, Sara will perform with SRHS alumni Jenna Rice and current students Anthony Fydik, Alexandra Gilbert and Meghan Taschenberger as part of the BSO Side-by-Side performance, according to the school's website

“We are proud and overjoyed at her musical accomplishments,” said Gerald Cavanaugh, SRHS Instrumental Music Director on the school website.  “We wish to thank her family and teachers for their belief and cultivation of her talents.”
