'Summer Fun' Car Event Brings Main Street Businesses, Community Together

The event will include, cars, games, prizes and a chance to enjoy the bustling shopping center tucked away on Mitchell's Chance Road.

The sound of rolling thunder is set to fill this Saturday as dozens of cars, trucks, hot rods and motorcycles fill its roadways for the Summer Fun & Car Show.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the entire community is invited to enjoy the special event that features cars, games, food, obstacle courses and even a dunk tank.

The event, which occurs three times a year, will serve an additional purpose besides bringing the community together—it will let people know there is a bustling shopping center tucked away on Mitchell’s Chance Road, according to business owner Joe McGovern.

McGovern, co-owner of , opened their new Edgewater location more than a year ago but said people still may not know there are many shops located at the Main Street shopping center.

“We’re all hoping it’s a big draw to let people know [all the businesses] are back here,” McGovern said. “We’re trying to get all the local moms and dads and let them know, ‘Hey, we’re here!’”

Hosted by 16 businesses that operate in the shopping center, the Summer Fun & Car Show will give residents the ability to enjoy a local gathering and win some prizes while they’re at it. Awards for best car, truck, vintage vehicle, motorcycle and convertible will each be announced to those who apply for the contest. In addition to the car show, there will be an open-air market, an obstacle course, a dunk tank, carnival games and other water attractions.

After the event ends at 4 p.m., Main Street will turn into “Date Night” with dining and shopping specials at almost every business on the strip. East Coast Martial Arts will offer free childcare for all children 5 years old and up too. For those hoping to use the childcare service, registration is necessary.

The night will hit its peak around 8 p.m. McGovern said, as residents are treated to a classic rock and roll show.

“We’re going to have a band and end the day with some rock and roll. The band is called ‘Twice Over,’” McGovern said. “It’ll fit right in with the car show. Good ‘ole fashion American rock and roll to go along with our American car show.”

McGovern said the event planners have also reached out to car enthusiasts from the .

Radio station 93.1 WPOC will also attend the summer event, offering raffle prizes.
