Turn Around Consignments Still Spinning a Year Later
Local mom and entrepreneur Jen Schiavone bought Turn Around Consignments a year ago, and the store is still going strong.
Jen Schiavone bought Turn Around Consignments in West River on a whim and the local business is still spinning one year later.
Schiavone, an avid consignment shopper, left her job several years ago to be a stay-at-home mom. Once her children were a little older, she was looking for a job that will still allow ample time with her three children, now ages 9, 7 and 4.
When she heard a West River consignment shop owner was looking to sell, Schiavone jumped at the chance to buy the store and have a flexible work schedule.
"I love to volunteer at my kids' schools and this allows me to feel like I'm still with them every day," Schiavone said. "I feel like I can work but I'm not missing out on anything."
The store offers a variety of men's, women's and children's clothing and shoes—as well as bags, other accessories and limited housewares items. Shiavone has also started selling a budget friendly jewelry line called Paparazzi in the store.
"All items are $5, which is a great price point for the store," she said of the jewelry.
One of the things that makes Turn Around successful, said Shiavone, is word of mouth from her customers and the high quality items in the store.
"I'm a little particular about what I will take," she said. "People bring me very quality items."
Shiavone said she tries to run the store keeping a shopper's perspective in mind. She pairs outfits together on mannequins, helps shoppers assemble "looks," and often shifts around merchandise on the floor to keep the store looking fresh.
"I think there is something to be said for consignment shopping. I wanted it to have a boutique feel," Shiavone said.
