What Road in Edgewater Needs a Speed Bump?

Edgewater, MD- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Edgewater. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Edgewater, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

• "1660 block of Bishop Road near Shore Drive. People slingshot off of Shore Drive onto Bishop Roadd and go up our street at a high rate of speed."

• "South River Terrace!"

• "Pike Ridge Road. People race down it all the time."

• "Mayfield Road in Woodland Beach"
• "Fennel Road in Gingerville Woods. It's extremely uneasy seeing people go 45+ in a 25 mph zone. So many children, families enjoying their walks, or people walking their dogs."

• "South River Clubhouse Road so that people stop using it as a short cut and slow down for the school buses."
• "Loch Haven Road. Speed limit is 25 and many foolish drivers go 40+. It's a residential neighborhood people!"

• " Hillside Selby. A couple of speed bumps. Hills and curves that are not slowed down for. And no sidewalks."
• "Salisbury Road, in Londontown."
