Woman Found Unconscious, Floating Under South River Bridge

Paramedics transported the woman to Anne Arundel Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police and firefighters discovered a woman floating and unconscious underneath the South River Bridge on Friday morning.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Chief Michael Cox said medics received a call of a reported open-water drowning just after 7 a.m. in the 2900 block of Solomons Island Road. When firefighters and paramedics arrived, police were already on the scene, Cox said.

Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said officers responded and found an unoccupied vehicle atop the bridge and a body in the water. Mulcahy said there was “nothing suspicious in nature” about the incident.

“When our folks arrived, they were informed by the county police that they believed they had seen a body floating in the river in the area of water under the bridge,” Cox said. “We did get the fire boats in the water … they did pull a female estimated to be about 30 years of age from the water that was floating under the bridge.”

When medics pulled the woman from the water, she was “unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing,” Cox said.
