Father Charged With Shaking Baby Girl to Death
The most-read story in 2013 was about an Elkridge man charged with shaking his 6-week-old daughter to death in September. Aron James Krampf, 26, was charged with first- and second-degree child abuse and second-degree murder. Krampf’s trial is set for March 2014, according to online court records.
Se Habla Espanol at New Ducketts Lane Elementary School
Elkridge Patch reported in August about the new Ducketts Lane Elementary and the school’s innovative approach to foreign language instruction. It is the the first public elementary school in Howard County to offer daily Spanish classes.
Elkridge Man's Body Found Below Bloede Dam
Police found the body of an Elkridge man below Bloede Dam in August. Arturo Acosta-Acero, 33, was reportedly swimming with two friends when he was last seen Sunday night, according to police. Patch reported that the dam, built in 1907, was described by DNR on their website as a public safety concern that should be removed.

She Wrote the Book on Elkridge
Although she’s moved on to cover other Patch communities, Elizabeth Janney published a book in 2013 titled Elkridge. Janney was the founding editor of Elkridge Patch. The book traces the history of Elkridge, founded in the mid-18th century.
While textbooks aren’t obsolete yet, a pilot program at an Elkridge school showed that iPads can be successful in the classroom to engage students.
