Drunk Driver Traveling 90MPH In 65MPH Zone Along I-95 Sentenced
A man has been found guilty and sentenced for driving while under the influence and going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, among other charges.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A driver traveling along I-95 has been sentenced after being found guilty of multiple charges including driving while impaired and speeding after police pulled him over going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone.
According to the Howard County State's Attorney's Office, Russell Scott, 66, passed a Maryland State Trooper on I-95 Aug. 11, 2024, around 3 a.m. The state trooper attempted to stop Scott's vehicle, but it took him 1.5 minutes to realize he was being followed by the trooper with his lights and siren on. Scott continued to pass other vehicles while the trooper was following him. When the trooper approached his vehicle, the trooper testified he could smell alcohol. Scott refused to take a breath test or a standardized field sobriety test, prosecutors said. He was arrested at the scene.
Scott has been found guilty of driving while impaired, reckless driving, negligent driving and speeding (90 mph in a 65 mph zone). He was sentenced to 120 days suspend all but 10 of active incarceration with three years of supervised probation and a $1,000 fine.
