Howard County Schools Change Schedule For Jan. 21

The Howard County Public Schools System has changed the schedule for Tuesday, Jan. 21. Here's the latest.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — After the weekend snow and frigid temperatures that followed, all Howard County Public Schools are closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to forecasted temperatures and overnight refreezing.

On Monday night the district had initially said classes would start two hours late. But at 7 a.m. the officials changed the status to canceled.

The updated notice said:

Upon reevaluation of refreeze and icy road/pathway conditions, all Howard County public schools and offices are now closed Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

All afternoon and evening activities involving HCPSS students and staff, as well as community-sponsored programs in HCPSS buildings are canceled.

If Howard Community College is open as scheduled, HCPSS students who are enrolled at HCC and cannot attend due to a lack of transportation should notify their professors immediately using their MyHCC email or Canvas. HCC operating status information can be found online.

There will be no ARL classes on Jan. 21. An adjusted exam schedule will be communicated to high school families.

Brian Bassett, director of communications and engagement for the Howard County Public School System, told Patch that the school district has designated a total of five inclement weather days in its calendar. So far, the school system has used three inclement weather days.
