Howard County Schools Change Wednesday Schedule Because Of Snow
Howard County Public schools and offices have changed the schedule for Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the aftermath of the snowstorm.
ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Howard County Public schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 17, because of expected poor weather conditions overnight and in the morning. Because of the previously scheduled early dismissal, a late opening for schools is not possible, a district statement said.
Offices are opening late, with liberal leave in effect.
High school midterms scheduled for Jan. 17 will be given the next day school is in session.

All evening activities involving HCPSS students and staff are canceled. In addition, all community-sponsored programs in HCPSS buildings are canceled.
Staff
- AFSCME: Employees report as scheduled.
- ESP 10- and 11-Month: Employees do not report to work.
- ESP 12-Month: Employees may report 120 minutes later than regular reporting time, or exercise liberal leave.
- Executive: Employees may report 90 minutes later than regular reporting time, or exercise liberal leave.
- Food/Nutrition Services: Employees do not report to work.
- HCASA-Admin: Employees may report 90 minutes later than regular reporting time, exercise liberal leave; or request permission to telework.
- HCASA-NCS 10- and 11-Month: Employees do not report to work.
- HCASA-NCS 12-Month: Employees may report 90 minutes later than regular reporting time, or exercise liberal leave.
- HCEA 10- and 11-month: Employees do not report to work.
- HCEA 12-month: Employees may report 90 minutes later than regular reporting time, or exercise liberal leave.
All staff designated as emergency employees should report as directed by their supervisor.

Winter weather returned to the region Monday into Tuesday with many cities covered in 4 to 5 inches of snow by Tuesday morning, and cold will soon follow the storm into the state. Low temperatures will drop into the low teens the next two nights, the National Weather Service said.
Most school districts in the Baltimore region canceled classes Tuesday.
