CCBC Essex Continues Turnaround Season

The Knights women's lacrosse team is now 7-1and ranked fifth in the nation after losing its previous 36 straight games.

The CCBC Essex women's lacrosse team's turnaround season continued over the weekend.

The Knights improved to 7-1 on the season following convinicing wins at Niagara County Community College and Genesee Community College in New York on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

At Genesee, sophomore midfielder Paige Orpin () scored six goals as CCBC Essex won, 20-6. One day earlier cruised to a 19-2 win at Niagara County.

These wins came days after CCBC Essex rolled to an 18-8 win Thursday over visiting Harford Community College. In that win, goalie Leanne Bittner () finished with 11 saves and freshman attack Taylor Jones (IND) had six goals and an assist.

After losing its previous 36 games entering the season, CCBC Essex has quickly turned into one of the top junior college programs in the country. The Knights entered the weeked ranked fifth in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll.

CCBC Essex next plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Howard Community College. The Knights won the last meeting between the two schools, 21-9, on March 13.

CCBC Essex Men's Lacrosse Falls to Nassau CC

Sophomore midfielder Neil Hutchinson () scored three goals and had two assists but the Knights lost 12-8 Saturday against visiting Nassau Community College. 

The Knights never led in the game, which pitted two nationally-ranked teams and was a rematch of last year's NJCAA national semifinals. CCBC Essex won that game, 6-5.

In Saturday's game, sophomore midfielder Rocco Piliero scored two goals and had two assists and sophomore goalie Brian Beatson had a team-high eight saves for the Knights (6-2).

CCBC Essex enters this week ranked second, while Nassau is ranked third in the latest NJCAA poll.

CCBC Essex next plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Army Prep in West Point, N.Y.

CCBC Essex Baseball Sweeps Double-Header

Pitcher Nicholas Morton (Parkville) pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the first game as the Knights defeated visiting Community College of Philadelphia, 16-0 and 24-0, respectively on Sunday.

CCBC Essex (8-6) has won five straight and next plays at 3:30 p.m. Tusday at CCBC Dundalk
