UPDATE: Vehicle Strikes Girl Near Stemmers Run Middle

A 12-year-old girl received non-life threatening injuries in Essex Friday morning.

UPDATE (Dec. 7, 1:15 p.m.)—A child was struck by a vehicle near her Essex school Friday morning. 

At about 8:11 a.m., a gray Honda Pilot struck a 12-year-old girl near Stemmers Run Middle School, near the intersection of Stemmers Run Road and Eastern Avenue, according to Julia Hardgrove, a Baltimore County police spokeswoman. 

The vehicle stayed on the scene after striking the girl. She received non-life threatening injuries. Emergency crews transported the girl to Johns Hopkins Children's Center by ambulance, Hardgrove said.

Police confirmed that the girl is a student at the school and that no school buses were involved in the accident. 

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
