Eastern Tech Drops Game to Rival Lansdowne

The Mavericks give up five runs in the third inning in a game pitting two of the area's top softball teams.

pitcher Jordan Cargile allowed just two hits, but a rough third innings was the difference as Lansdowne beat the visiting Mavericks, 5-2, on Monday in a battle of two of the top softball teams in the region.

Trailing 1-0, Lansdowne scored all of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. Eastern Tech (2-1) scored single runs in the second and fourth innings, respectively.

Ashleigh Sauerwein had two hits for the Mavericks in the game, which represented a Eastern Tech won the county title while Lansdowne bounced back to take the region crown.

The Mavericks loss came three days after they cruised to a 4-1 win at . In that game, Cargile allowed two hits and an earned run while freshman outfielder Keri Klimko had two hits.

Eastern Tech next plays at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday against visiting Hereford.

Eastern Tech Boys Lacrosse: Hunter Oleszczuk scored five goals as the Mavericks rolled to a 14-2 win at Woodlawn on Monday.

Bobby Walsh had a goal and four assists and Charles Rice contributed three goals and an assist for Eastern Tech (2-1), which had seven different players score at least one goal.

Also for Eastern Tech Sam Jackson and Brady McKinney had a goal and two assists, Caruso Nicholson scored twice and goalie Wyatt Almond had 14 saves.

Eastern Tech next plays at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at Catonsville.

Eastern Tech Baseball: Andy Szamaski, Neil Westdorp, Jimmy Szamski each drove in a run as the Mavericks won 5-3 at Towson on Monday.

The win came three days after Eastern Tech (2-1) lost 4-3 in 10 innings to visiting. The Mavericks trailed that game 3-0 before tying the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Eastern Tech next plays at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts

Kenwood Boys Lacrosse: The Bluebirds (2-1) suffered its first loss of the year as host- won, 17-2. The loss came after outscored its opponents, 31-6, in its first two games.

On a more positive note, senior attack Jordan Boller was selected as this week's WBFF Fox 45 News Prep Player of the Week. Through three games, Boller has nine goals and eight assists. FOX45's Prep Player of the Week is a weekly segment, which airs every Tuesday in Sports Unlimited.

Kenwood next plays at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at Lansdowne.
