GAITHERSBURG, MD — Jared Bush, a Gaithersburg native, won an Oscar Sunday night for his work writing and directing "Encanto."

The Disney picture won Best Animated Film. "Encanto" is about a family, the Madrigals, who live in Colombia and are blessed with magic gifts, except for one child.

"So much to be thankful for tonight, but the best was celebrating with La Familia Madrigal," said Bush on Twitter. "Beyond grateful for all those who helped create #Encanto — and all the fans who found themselves in our story. We share this with you!"
