📰 News we're reading

• Governor Moore Announces $69.5 Million in Awards for Statewide Community Revitalization and Economic Development (wgmd.com) — Gaithersburg low-income homeowners are slated to receive free repairs, accessibility upgrades, and energy-efficiency improvements through a new round of state revitalization grants. The funding is part of Governor Wes Moore’s $69.5 million package for 226 community projects statewide, targeting housing, business façades, public spaces, and major redevelopment efforts in disinvested neighborhoods across Maryland.

• New Montgomery County law mandates 14-day eviction notice to aid struggling renters (wusa9.com) — Gaithersburg renters are currently exempt from Montgomery County’s new law requiring landlords to give tenants 14 days’ written notice before an eviction, double the state minimum. County leaders say the change should help struggling renters elsewhere find money or assistance before losing their homes, while tenant advocates hope Rockville and Gaithersburg will eventually adopt similar protections. Local residents should watch for any future city-level action.
