Arts on the Green Series to Feature Acoustic-Folk Duo
Experience the music of Canadian acoustic-folk group Dala on Saturday, March 4.
From Arts on The Green: Gaithersburg’s Arts on the Green invites you to experience the music of Canadian acoustic-folk group Dala on Saturday, March 4, 2017. It is part of the Singer Songwriter Concert Series presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa. The duo will lead a workshop at 3 p.m. followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road. Tickets are $50 for the workshop and concert, $30 for the concert only.
Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine are Dala. The two best friends met in their high school music class in 2002 and have since released five albums and toured extensively across North America. Their music is both catchy and insightful, drawing upon influences that include The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan. Amanda’s ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Sheila’s velvety alto, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark. The sheer joy with which they perform is infectious, turning first-time listeners into instant fans. Amanda and Sheila are equally entertaining between songs, telling funny, down to earth stories that make every show unique.
“Dala can sing! What beautiful flights of melody and harmony, reminiscent of the Everly Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, Emmylou Harris and associates; though Dala can trade a melody line and leave one wondering who is taking the lead and simply leave one behind when the harmonies kick in,” says the Peterborough Examiner.
