Gaithersburg Workers Begin Hauling Limbs, Debris

Residents with large yard waste should put it on the curb. Smaller items will be picked up at recycling time.

Gaithersburg officials say workers will spend most of the next two weeks removing large tree limbs and other debris left from of Friday's powerful storm.

The city said pickup crews will work through Friday, July 13.

Residents should cut large limbs into pieces and place them in piles at the curb so Public Works crews can pick them up.

"Large yard waste is characterized as tree limbs greater than 6-feet long, more than 4-inches in diameter, or weigh more than 40 lbs.," a statement from city said.

While there was no recycling on the Fourth of July, residents should leave smaller yard waste out on Saturday for the next pickup. Smaller branches and other yard trimmings should be bundled or placed in biodegradable brown paper bags, the city said.

Residents who had scheduled bulk pickups on July 4 will have to wait until Wednesday, July 11, according to the statement.
