Get Fit In The New Year With La Milla De Mayo One-Mile Run
Early registration is now open. The event is on Saturday, May 6 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Runners of all ages and levels are eligible to register.

From the City of Gaithersburg: Get a head start on your New Year’s resolution and register early for the 2nd Annual La Milla de Mayo (The May Mile), a festive one-mile run/walk through Olde Towne, Gaithersburg on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event, hosted by the City of Gaithersburg in partnership with the Montgomery County Road Runners Club, features a chip timed race and quarter and half-mile Kids Fun Runs. Runners of all ages and levels are eligible to register for this event.
La Milla de Mayo is the perfect one-mile run/walk for those new to running or who want to improve their mile in the quaint atmosphere of Olde Towne, Gaithersburg. Participants are invited to celebrate their finish with a Post-Race Festival featuring live music, food vendors, Salsa dancing, crafts, and fun activities. Through corporate sponsorships and donations, proceeds benefit the City’s Dolores C. Swoyer Camp Scholarship Fund, which provides summer camp registration fees for underprivileged youth.
Registration for those ages 12 and older is $15 ($25 with t-shirt) through March 31, $17 ($27 with t-shirt) from April 1 through 30, and $19 from May 1 to noon on May 5. Children’s registration for the one-mile run is $10 for ages 5 to 11 and $5 for ages 4 and under. Registration for the quarter and half-mile Kids Fun Runs is free. Register online here.

A training plan to assist in preparing for the one-mile race is provided by Run Farther & Faster and can be downloaded from the City’s website here.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available. With customizable packages ranging from $100 to $1,000, businesses and organizations can display banners along the race course, place logos on t-shirts, serve as a pre-race packet pick-up location, provide promotional materials in race packets, and have exhibit space at the post-race festival. Note that there is limited availability for some of these opportunities. The deadline to apply for sponsorship is April 6, 2017.

Designed to bring attention to the economic vitality of Olde Towne and to engage residents in a fun, social fitness activity, La Milla de Mayo will start at the Girard Business Center and end at the Thomas Cannery Shopping Center along East Diamond Avenue. Runners, family members, friends, and community members are welcome to warm up with Zumba classes at the start line and cool down with Salsa music, dancing, maraca making, and other family activities in the Olde Towne Area.
