Teen Charged In Crash That Killed Germantown Woman
Police said the teen was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time of the July crash.
GERMANTOWN, MD — A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a rollover collision that killed a Germantown woman last year, according to police.
Brody Richardson of Boyds was charged with manslaughter by vehicle due to gross negligence, negligent homicide by vehicle while under the influence and other related offenses in connection with the July 21 crash that killed Mary Elizabeth Moody, Montgomery County police said in a statement.
According to police, the crash occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road.

Police said Moody was attempting to turn left onto eastbound Mateny Road from southbound Great Seneca Highway when her car was struck by Richardson, who was driving a black 2021 Mazda northbound on Great Seneca Highway.
The impact caused the Subaru to roll over, ejecting Moody from the vehicle, police said.

Despite lifesaving efforts, Moody was pronounced dead at the scene. Richardson was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
According to investigators, Richardson had consumed alcohol before driving. A blood sample obtained at the hospital and analyzed by the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20. Investigators also said Richardson had used marijuana before driving.
Vehicle data and scene analysis also indicated that Richardson driviing approximately 94 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone as he approached the intersection where the crash occurred.
Impairment and excessive speed were ruled as contributing factors in the crash, police said.
Richardson surrendered on Tuesday on an outstanding warrant. He was released on a $10,000 personal bond.
