The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Hamed Ghorouni Delcheh of Germantown, authorities said.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The Independent Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General has identified the man killed in the officer-involved shooting that occurred last month in Gaithersburg.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Hamed Ghorouni Delcheh of Germantown, authorities said.

On July 20, the IID said it was notified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office that at approximately 9:30 a.m., a deputy sheriff assigned to the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force was serving an arrest warrant in the 100 block of Garth Terrace in Gaithersburg.

During the execution of the warrant, authorities said the deputy fired their gun, fatally injuring the wanted man. A second man was shot and taken to an area hospital and treated for his injuries.

Because the involved officer was assigned to the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force at the time of the shooting, the Independent Investigations Division is investigating this incident in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

At the conclusion of the IID’s investigation, that report will be referred to the relevant State’s Attorney’s Office to consider whether state charges are appropriate, the Office of the Attorney General said.
