Rio, Kentlands Theatres Prepare for 'Dark Knight' Finale

AMC Loews Rio Cinemas 18 is prepared to show "The Dark Knight Rises" on all 18 screens if necessary.

Gaithersburg's movie theatres are preparing for possibly the busiest night of the year as Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy wraps up with the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" at midnight.

The IMAX showing of the entire trilogy at Rio, which began at 6 p.m. and cost $40 per person, was sold out, along with eight of the theatre's 18 total screens as of 5 p.m., theatre supervisor Sarah Toole told Patch.

But eight screens might not be enough.

"When one sells out we're opening another," Toole said, adding that the Batman movie will be shown on all 18 screens if necessary.

At Kentlands Stadium 10, "The Dark Knight Rises" is being shown on three screens, director of operations C.S. Huang said. None of the three were sold out as of 5 p.m., he said.

Both venues will start letting customers in as soon as theatres become available. Rio officials estimated it could be as early as 9 p.m. while Kentlands officials anticipated an 11:15 p.m. entrance.

Moviegoers began arriving for Rio's IMAX trilogy showing as early as 4 p.m., Toole said.
