One Family's Strawberry Picking Tradition: MOCO Summer Series

GERMANTOWN, MD — Fresh, local fruit is one of the treats many people look forward to in the summer, including those in Montgomery County. Today in our MOCO Summer Series, we hear from one residents whose family makes a tradition of picking their own strawberries.
Patch wants to know how MOCO residents like to spend their summers — the best shaved ice shops, your favorite ways to cool off. We're asking residents to submit their favorite things to be featured on Patch. Business owners who believe they offer a great summer service are also invited to fill out the form.

Butler's Orchard
Rebecca Salzman, a Germantown resident, said that her family's favorite thing to do in the summer is pick strawberries at Butler's Orchard. It's been a tradition in her family since 1975.
Pictured above is Rebecca's son's first visit — now he's almost 12.

New Submissions
Here are some examples of what we're looking for in new submissions:
- your family's tradition for what to do in the summer, from cannonball contests to indoor air-conditioned movie marathons
- a favorite restaurant, ice cream shop, or other business that you rely on to get through the summer
- a treasured memory from a past Montgomery County summer
Patch will prioritize submissions that have a photo attached — be sure to only submit photos that you took or are the owner of. Submissions without photos will still be considered.
