Passing a School Bus in Maryland: Laws, Fines

With another school year under way in Maryland, police across the state are reminding drivers to watch for youngsters daring into traffic and that illegally passing school buses stopped for loading and unloading of children carries a hefty fine.

It is against the law for a car to pass a bus that is stopped with its lights flashing and stop-sign arm extended. Police are reminding drivers that traffic in both directions must stop for a school bus if there is no dividing median on the road. >>> Read more.

Skid Loader Traps Driver in Sewer Trench

A special rescue team was called out Saturday to rescue a construction worker who drove his skid loader into a trench and was trapped underneath the heavy equipment.

An operator was using a Bobcat to excavate a sewer line inside the commercial building when he mistakenly drove into the trench, said Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services. >>> Read more.
