2 AACC Basketball Players Honored For Standout Performances

Two basketball players from Anne Arundel Community College were honored for their standout performances on the court.

ARNOLD, MD — Two Anne Arundel Community College basketball players were honored for their standout performances last month, the school announced on Jan. 19.

Jada Turner was named the NJCAA Region 20 Division III Women’s Basketball Player of the Month for December 2021. Braeden Cavey won the same award in the men's category.

Turner averaged 15 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in the month. She also played nearly every minute of the Riverhawks’ four games during that stretch.

The freshman forward scored more than 20 points in consecutive games. Turner drained 22 points against Butler County Community College on Dec. 11. She followed that with a career-high 24 points versus the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville on Dec. 15.

The Glen Burnie resident shot 47.1 percent (8-17) against Butler County Community College and 42.9 percent (9-21) against CCBC Catonsville. She also tallied five steals at Division I Harford Community College on Dec. 8.

The North County High School graduate is averaging 12.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game this season. Turner's play has been a bright spot for the 2-13 women's team, which will host Garrett College this Wednesday at 5 p.m.


Cavey averaged 19.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in December. That led the men's team to a 4-2 record during the month.

The sophomore forward hit 46.9 percent of his shots from the floor and 48 percent of his attempts from three. He had three double-doubles and three games with at least 23 points.

The Severn native started December with 11 rebounds and a career-high 31 points against Division II College of Southern Maryland.

Cavey recorded 26 points and snatched 16 rebounds at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College on Dec. 12 He also hit two-thirds of hits shots from the floor (10-15) and from three (6-9).

The Glen Burnie High School graduate led the Riverhawks to a comeback win over CCBC Catonsville on December 15. He finished that contest with a team-high 12 rebounds, the last of which led to the game-winning basket with 18 seconds left.

Cavey is averaging 14.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game this season. The 6-9 men's team will host Christendom College Monday at 7 p.m.
