Baltimore Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer in Linthicum

Anne Arundel County police charged a Baltimore man Wednesday with impersonating a police officer, forcing a cab driver to stop and pounding on the cab with his fist.

According to police, at approximately 5 p.m., a man driving a Pontiac G6 followed a taxi driver on Ritchie Highway after a disagreement over a potential traffic violation. The man followed the cab into the parking lot of the MVA, on the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway, and "boxed in" the cab, forcing the victim to stop.

The suspect, claiming to be an officer and wearing a jacket with "Police" on the back, confronted the cab driver and started striking the victim's vehicle with his fist. The suspect then fled in his vehicle.

Investigators located the suspect at his residence, on the 4100 block of Townsend Ave. in Baltimore, and found he was not an officer.

Police arrested Bryan Edward Benway, 48, and charged him with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and impersonating a police officer.
