Glen Burnie: House fire

A fire that started in the chimney of a home in the 1600 block of Furnace Drive caused $20,000 in damage and an additional $5,000 to the house next door. The fire began shortly before 2:38 a.m. Monday, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived to find a chimney fire that spread to the other parts of the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Glen Burnie: Strong arm robbery

A 56-year-old man was robbed as he was exiting the Rite Aid Pharmacy located in the 1700 block of Crain Highway, according to police.

Police officers responded to Rite Aid at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday and spoke with the victim who said a man assaulted him and took his money as he was leaving the store.

The victim told police that the suspect got into the passenger seat of a silver sedan and fled the area. Police later recovered the car, which was determined to have been stolen from Maryland City earlier that day, about a mile away.

The investigation is ongoing.

Glen Burnie: Car accident

A 50-year-old man crashed his vehicle into a guardrail near I-97 and Route 648 around 3:26 a.m. Wednesday, according to a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

He was taken to the shock trauma center in Baltimore and hospitalized with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Brooklyn Park: Pedestrian struck

A 35-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car in the 4000 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park around 7:48 a.m. Wednesday, according to a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

The driver of a Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on Ritchie Highway approaching 1st Avenue when the man suddenly ran across the highway and was struck, according to Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.

The man was taken to the shock trauma center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries.

Brooklyn Park: Robbery

Police responded to a robbery report at the Gulf gas station in the 5700 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park around 10:15 p.m. March 21.

The victim, a 65-year-old man, told police he was inside the gas station when a man approached him from behind and removed his wallet.

Brooklyn Park: Drug arrests

Police arrested a man and a woman March 14 at the Budget Plaza Motel located in the 4800 block of Ritchie Highway.

Octavius Travon Williams, 39, and Colleen Michell Williams, 33, were arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute a large amount of cocaine and other drug charges.

According to police, after investigating drug activity in the Brooklyn Park area, detectives executed a “no-knock” warrant March 14 at the Budget Plaza Motel where Octavius and Colleen Williams were staying.

Detectives seized about 156 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a small amount of suspected marijuana, $7,048 in cash and drug paraphernalia.
