Six people were displaced from their home after an electrical fire in the 300 block of New Jersey Avenue Northeast on Thursday, fire officials said. The fire started around 6:50 p.m. and it took 25 firefighters 15 minutes to get the one-alarm fire under control. The residents of the two-story single-family house were home at the time and all were able to escape without injury. They were assisted by the Red Cross. The fire, which caused about $75,000 in damage, was accidental and caused by an overheated extension cord plugged into an air conditioner, according to fire officials.
