Ferndale United Methodist Church Shelters More Than 20 From Sandy

The church is providing food, showers and a safe place to stay overnight during the storm.

The Ferndale United Methodist Church sheltered more than 20 people yesterday and into last night, according to a shelter organizer.

"We had 17 guests and about five people working," said Brooke Cantley, one of the volunteers at the shelter.

The church will continue to provide food, showers and a safe place to stay for Tuesday night as well, according to Cantley.

She said this storm brought more people than Hurricane Irene, when the church also opened its doors as a shelter.
