Finally—Ann’s Dari-Creme

This Glen Burnie landmark was exactly what I needed on an 85-degree day.

I finally took the suggestion of so many of you over the past few months—I went to . And boy did it not disappoint.

I had been planning to visit the home of the “famous footlong” Monday, but when the weatherman said it would be 80 degrees I knew I had to go grab a dog, milkshake and sit at the outdoor tables. So that’s exactly what I did.

Even though I’ve spoken to many Glen Burnie natives over the months about Ann’s and even with the coverage we gave the when we first started about their 60-year anniversary, I was still impressed when my server took three orders at once (one with very intricate requests for toppings) and didn’t write anything down.

"You won't even see any pens or paper behind the counter," said assistant manager Trish Ludlow when she spoke with Patch in November.

It still blows my mind.

Telling my server I was a newbie, she walked me through the lunch counter’s short menu. I opted for the footlong with everything (meaning mustard, onions and chili) and a vanilla milkshake. I remembered to bring my cash, paid for my food and went to take in some sun at one of the outdoor tables. It was a pleasant way to spend a Monday afternoon in Glen Burnie.

I was delighted with my meal and can see why manager that there are customers who come from as far as the Eastern Shore and Pennsylvania to grab a bite. She said there's a minister from the area who now lives in the Midwest and once a year, he has FedEx pick up subs and footlongs for his entire congregation.

A man walked through the parking lot as I was taking my last bite.

“Best dogs in the world, huh?” he said as he smiled to me.

“Yeah, they’re really good,” I replied.

The legend is that when Marley Station Mall was scheduled to be built, customers rallied behind the store and protested its destruction—and won.

I’m glad they did.

So, where should I go next?
