Softball: Glen Burnie Hosts the River Hill Hawks

In our first Game of the Week action of the spring, the Glen Burnie softball team hopes to start the season off strong.

After a few weeks break the spring sports season kicks off Monday, and just like with winter sports Patch will highlight one or high school game as its "Game of the Week."

This week’s featured matchup is Saturday's 1 p.m. game between the Glen Burnie softball team and the River Hill Hawks of Howard County.

Gophers head coach Doug Schreiber said last week that he’s looking forward to kicking the season off.

Schreiber said he believes the team will have a good chance to win in every game they play this season, since it has three returning all-county players. First-team all-county players include junior pitcher Melanie Slowinski and infielder Caitlyn Kirby, a sophomore. Cara Woods, a senior infielder, was a second-team all-county player last year.

Howard County's River Hill has a couple all-county players returning as well. Emily Posey, a senior outfielder, and Kat Vargas, a sophomore infielder, were named second-team all-county players in 2010.
